Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) in Myanmar

Job Overview:

Use your TESL skills and gain valuable experience while enjoying the culture of Myanmar, building local relationships and serving with our local team.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • You would be teaching English in our English center

  • Hosting informal English conversation classes and programs in English on Sundays

  • There is opportunity to participate in the team activities like orphanage visits and team ministry days if you are interested

  • You can also do some Burmese study (the country language) with one of our local staff

Proposed weekly schedule: 

  • Monday 

    • 8:45-9:20 Team Devotions 
      9:30-11:30 English Teaching 
      12:30-2:30 English teaching
      3:00-4:00 Prayer Meeting

  • Tuesday Day off

  • Wednesday 

    • 8:45-9:20 Devotions 
      9:30-11:30 English Teaching 
      12:30-2:30 English Teaching

  • Thursday 

    • 9:00-3:00 Prayer Emphasis Day, Team Ministry Day, or Orphanage Visit 
      Evening – team dinner and fellowship.

  • Friday 

    • 8:45-9:20 Devotions 
      9:30-3:00 preparation time and supervisor meeting time 
      3:00-4:00 Team Bible Study

  • Saturday 

    • 10-12:00 English Conversation Club

  • Sunday 

    • 8:30-10:30 Church Service 
      (11:00-1:00 Youth Club if you wish to be involved.)
      (This schedule also depends on the requirements of the university. If there is a need for you to fill a certain number of teaching hours we can arrange for more or less.)

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Training in teaching English as a 2nd language

  • Some experience teaching English as a second language

  • Flexibility to work in Myanmar with Myanmar teammates

Additional Info:

  • All interns must formally accept and abide by OM USA’s Statement of Faith for the duration of the internship.

  • International internships are not paid positions and all financial needs should be covered with personal support.

  • Home-stay with a national is dependent on circumstances.

  • Pre-Field training happens through on-line materials and Skype sessions with coaches and other interns for a few weeks leading up departure date. Includes debriefing with coaches on return.

  • Dates and duration of internships are flexible, should be worked out with the team.

Qualifications of on-field supervisor:

  • B.S. in Business Administration

  • TESOL certification.

  • Has been working with OM for over 7 years in the UK, Nepal, Myanmar, and Thailand.

Accreditation:

  • Degree Credit available upon the approval of your university/college supervisors.
