Photography in Middle East / North Africa

Responsibilities and Duties:

The OM Middle East North Africa (OM MENA) Communications Internship Program is based in the Near East Field and provides opportunities for interns to travel across the wider area (Arabian Peninsula, Jordan, North Africa, etc.) using their photography skills. The internship begins with informal training in developing communications tools for the web and print publications for the international non‐profit organization. During the internship, the intern may spend 1‐4 weeks at a destination country within MENA, meeting ministry leaders and visiting ministry locations. In the course of this time, the intern will take and edit photographs. The intern returns to the Near East Field, after each field visit, to edit communications resources and debrief with internship supervisor. All photos will be edited and submitted to OM MENA before the intern completes the internship. The communications internship in MENA provides opportunities for the intern to meet workers who are sharing their lives and the gospel in this region of the world. The intern will be exposed to different styles of ministry. It is a wonderful opportunity for the intern to gain international field experience and to work with a professional editor in creating communications resources for web and print publications for a global audience.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must have a proven ability to produce quality photos

  • Applicant must submit the link to an online portfolio of his/her work for review and evaluation

  • Photographer must bring and use his/her own DSLR.

  • It is recommended for the photographer to bring a lightweight tripod to use as needed

  • Photographer must bring and use his/her own laptop with photo editing software such as Photoshop

  • Photographer must bring an external hard drive for backing up files and USB for file transfers.

Additional Info:

  • All interns must formally accept and abide by OM USA’s Statement of Faith for the duration of the internship.

  • International internships are not paid positions and all financial needs should be covered with personal support.

  • Home-stay with a national is dependent on circumstances.

  • Pre-Field training happens through on-line materials and Skype sessions with coaches and other interns for a few weeks leading up departure date. Includes debriefing with coaches on return.

  • Dates and duration of internships are flexible, should be worked out with the team.

Qualifications of on-field supervisor:

  • OM MENA Communications Internship Supervisor credentials are available upon request. Communications interns are accountable to the OM MENA Area Communications Facilitator (ACF) and will work in partnership with the respective Field Communications Facilitators (FCF).


  • Degree Credit available upon the approval of your university/college supervisors.
