Intercultural Studies in Spain

Job Overview:

Experience Spanish and Catalan culture while practicing your Spanish and / or Catalan language with those around you. Assist with the various ministries here including youth evangelism, Sunday school for kids, house groups, discipleship and involvement with a local church. Located in Castelldefels, a medium size town close to Barcelona.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • You will be involved in language exchange teams and English language teaching to adolescents

  • You will assist with the youth home group and their different activities

  • You will take part of the church’s evangelism and discipleship program as needed

  • Receive training in cross cultural relevant evangelism and discipleship.

Proposed weekly schedule: 

  • Two hours of Bible study together and two hours of personal Bible study

  • Five hours of language exchange / friendship evangelism

  • One hour of English language teaching, plus two hours of class preparation

  • Two hours of devotional together and sharing as a team

  • One hour of personal follow up and conversation with the coordinator

  • Two hours of evangelism as a team

  • Two hours of work and collaboration with the youth group

  • Two hours of collaboration with another church ministry

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A mid-level knowledge of the Spanish language

  • Basic knowledge of Catalan a plus but not required.

Additional Info:

  • All interns must formally accept and abide by OM USA’s Statement of Faith for the duration of the internship.

  • International internships are not paid positions and all financial needs should be covered with personal support.

  • Home-stay with a national is dependent on circumstances.

  • Pre-Field training happens through on-line materials and Skype sessions with coaches and other interns for a few weeks leading up departure date. Includes debriefing with coaches on return.

  • Dates and duration of internships are flexible, should be worked out with the team.

Qualifications of on-field supervisor:

  • Degree in Modern Languages, with Translation and Linguistic Studies

  • Church planter worker with her husband who has 20+ years of experience in Spanish / Catalan ministry.

Accreditation:

  • Degree Credit available upon the approval of your university/college supervisors.
