Communications in Myanmar

Job Overview:

Come experience the culture of Myanmar, as you interact with wonderful people who have intriguing stories to tell. Use your communications and photography skills to capture what God is doing and how He is revealing His heart for the world in Southeast Asia.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Helping to gather stories from workers, write up and publish on our internal website

  • Writing and designing OM Myanmar newsletter

  • Doing basic photography

  • Participate in some ministry activities to get a taste of life in Myanmar

    • orphanage

    • team outreaches

    • fellowships

    • devotion times

  • Take part in cultural experiences to develop the communications interns’ ability to transmit the message of Myanmar.

Proposed Weekly Schedule:

  • Monday 
    8:45-9:30 Team Devotions, Writing and editing, observe English classes, or cultural outing
    3:00-4:00 Team Prayer Meeting

  • Tuesday - Day off

  • Wednesday - 
    8:00 leave for kindergarten or outreach centre ministries. Observe, interview, and collect information 
    2:00/3:00 return

  • Thursday - Team Ministry or Orphanage Visit
    (Times vary depending on where we go)

  • Friday – 
    8:45-9:30 Team Devotions, Writing and editing, observe English classes, or cultural outing
    3:00-4:00 Team Bible Study

  • Saturday - 
    10:00-12:00 Conversation Club
    (Sometimes observe sometimes present to Myanmar students)

  • Sunday – 
    8:30-11:00 Church Service 11:30-1
    Youth Club (Observe or present)

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Good interviewing and writing skills

  • Desire to work in Myanmar

  • Willingness to be flexible

  • Initiative in taking opportunities

  • Some computer skills would be helpful

  • Basic Photography skills

Additional Info:

  • All interns must formally accept and abide by OM USA’s Statement of Faith for the duration of the internship.

  • International internships are not paid positions and all financial needs should be covered with personal support.

  • Home-stay with a national is dependent on circumstances.

  • Pre-Field training happens through on-line materials and Skype sessions with coaches and other interns for a few weeks leading up departure date. Includes debriefing with coaches on return.

  • Dates and duration of internships are flexible, should be worked out with the team.

Qualifications of on-field supervisor:

  • Professional article-writing experience

  • Experience with the OM internal communications network

Accreditation:

  • Degree Credit available upon the approval of your university/college supervisors.
